In its raw form, this clay is a dark reddish brown, but when fired it turns into this distinctive almost black color. When fired at high temperatures the clay is prone to bubbling and erupting creating a highly textured surface, but at controlled temperatures the clay maintains its thrown form. The high mineral content of the clay body reacts to the glaze’s own minderal makeup and creates these distinctive finishes.
